ISO 14001

ISO 14001 is an international standard for Environmental Management Systems and offers environmental certification.

Environmental Certification

Proof that an environmental management system has been introduced and works. Certification is carried out by specially appointed companies that continually monitor the activity.

Environmental Management System

An environmental management system is a method or tool for systematically working with environmental questions within an organization. An environmental management system includes concrete objectives, plans of action and a clear division of responsibility for environmental questions - these are all adopted as management issues.

Environmental Objectives

Overriding objectives are determined for the next 3 to 5 years and are general in character. The objectives are drafted based on the environmental policy, decisions on which areas are to be given priority as well as the establishment of the internal and external forces that exist within the organization. It should be possible to monitor and follow up the overriding objectives. Detailed targets run over a period of 1 to 3 years and their formulation is based on the overriding objectives. Detailed targets at the corporate level should be measurable and of a fixed term.

Environmental Policy

An expression of the intention and overriding principles for environmental work within an organization. The environmental policy is drawn up and ratified by the executive management in an organization.

Environmental Programme

An environmental program is a statement with guidelines for environmental questions and environmental work. The environmental policy and environmental objectives are components.

Environmental Impact

The change in the environment, e.g. emissions to air, ground or water, which are caused by the various activities of an organization.
